Mock Meet thank you and results

Thank you to all our swimmers and parent volunteers that participated in Saturday morning's Team Mock Meet.  We hope that our new swimmers got a good idea of what happens at a meet and that everyone was able to see the high amount of parent volunteer resources needed to run a swim meet.  Parents who volunteered and worked the Mock Meet are entered in our end of season parent rewards drawing.

Our first home league meet is this Thursday (6/19).  There will be a number of announcements posted this week related to this meet: concession donations, parent volunteer sign-ups, etc.

**Swimmer event sign-ups for this first league meet started last Friday and will continue through Wednesday's (6/18) practice.  Swimmer event sign-up sheets are located on the Black & Gold bulletin board that is located on the fence around the corner from the lifeguard's office.  Swimmers can sign-up for up to 3 individual events and will be assigned to a relay by the coaches.  If you have a swimmer sign-up concern please see or email your Team Parent Rep.**

Welch Swim Suit Orders ARE IN & Ready for Pick-up Monday (6/16)!!!

TEAM SUITS ARE IN!!!
All Welch Team swim suits orders that had been submitted are in and available for pick-up at Welch Pool:

• MONDAY (6/16), from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM
• THURSDAY (6/19) from 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM
• THURSDAY's HOME MEET (6/19)

This also will be the LAST time frame that Welch team suits can be ordered.
**NOTE**  If you still want a Welch Team Suit after the order deadline please see your Team Parent Rep, Sean Flynn who will provide you with direct vendor information.  Please understand that any direct/personal order is subject to a shipping charge and PA sales tax.**

Sherrill will also have various goggles and caps (including Welch) available for purchase (cash/check & carry) at that time.  Also ask about our Welch Sharks Swim Team euro-style car magnet. :^)

Mock Meet Reminder

Hey Welch Sharks,

Just a reminder that your team will be holding a Team Mock Meet Saturday (6/14) morning from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  As posted a couple of days ago, this is a great opportunity for swimmers and parents to experience a swim meet without the pressure of a league meet.  The events of the practice meet will consist of two (2) individual events (freestyle and backstroke) and one (1) freestyle relay.

PARENTS - We still need more parent volunteers!
As of FRI afternoon we still need:

• Timers - 13
• Runners - 2
• Scorers/Averagers - 2

DEADLINES:

• Swimsuits - Team Swimsuit Orders are due tomorrow (SAT, 6/14).  Suit try-ons for sizing orders will be held prior to the meet.  All sample suit try-ons MUST be BEFORE entering the water.

• Apparel - Team Apparel Orders are due tomorrow (SAT, 6/14).  We will have a limited number of team apparel items available for sale (cash & carry) at tomorrow's mock meet.  If your desired item is not available at the cash & carry table, you must submit an apparel order with payment to Marcie Rockey at the Team Apparel table.  An apparel order form is available to download and print at this link:

Swimmer Sign-Ups now being taken for our first league/home meet THU 6/19 against Park Forest.

• Swimmers wishing to swim this event need to sign up on the big meet sign-up board located near the fence/gate and the pool storage room on the SW side of the lifeguard office.
• Parent Volunteer Sign-Up for various meet positions are greatly needed and taken on our Sign-Up Genius site:

Drink donations for concession sales:

• Drink donations that will be used for concession sales during home league meets, as outlined in our General Information Tab/Letter, should be brought to Welch Pool with your last name written on the package and either given to the Parent Rep. or placed at/near the entrance of the pool's storage room located around the corner from the entrance to the lifeguard's office and under the Welch Team's information display case.
  
  Please bring your drinks with your name to the pool by Wednesday, June 18.

Stroke & Turn Official's Training Session (JUN 17)

A second Stroke & Turn Official's training session will be held 6 PM on TUE, June 17 at the Science Park Recreation Assoc. (SPRA) pool for all league parents interested in learning to become a CPSL S&T Official.  The FREE training session, will be conducted by Cory Miller and run approximately 1 to 2 hours in length.

Stroke and Turn officiating is a vital position for all swim meets.  The training details are not hard and you do not need competitive swimming experience.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about competitive swimming, what techniques your swimmers are attempting to accomplish, and provide you the opportunity to put your training experience to work by helping for a half at home or away swim meets.

When arriving at SPRA, please inform their front desk staff that you are attending the swim league's training session.  Also, please park in the SPRA parking area and not in the lots of the neighboring charter school or businesses.  If you have any questions please see or email your Team Parent Reps.  Thank you.

Swim Practices begin THU (6/12) & Mock Meet this Saturday (6/14)!!!

School's Out For Summer!
Well, almost ...just a half day to go. :-D


But with that in mind we have two important reminders:

1. Morning Team Practices begin Thursday (6/12).  Please refer to the Practice Times tab located at the top of the blog for your swimmer's age group practice time.
   
   
2. TEAM MOCK/Practice MEET at WELCH POOL
   Saturday (6/14) 7:45 AM to 10:00 AM - only 3 days from now!
   
   Our first Mock/Practice meet is this Saturday (6/14)!  The mock meet helps the new swimmers (and parents) learn how a swim meet works without the pressure of competing against another team.  During this abbreviated meet swimmers will likely be able to swim 3 individual events or possibly 2 individual events and 1 relay event.  Swimmer event sign-ups will be taken at the Thursday and Friday morning practices.
   
   To run this short meet we need parent volunteers to fill all the meet volunteer positions described on the Volunteer Positions tab/page that can be found within the top of the blog's navigation bar.

Saturday June 7 PRACTICE

Just a quick reminder that the WELCH SHARKS SWIM TEAM will hold another Saturday morning pre-season practice on June 7 for all registered swimmers.  Centre Region Parks & Rec will provide registration staff at the Welch Pool's front desk during this practice session.

PRACTICE TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS: 

• Ages 11+ from 8-9 AM
• Ages 10 & Under from 9-10 AM

As posted last week, we will provide parents with the Team's welcome letter and general information sheets.  We will also offer a number of WELCH SWIM TEAM apparel items for sale and order.  Also, please remember to refer to the various information tabs located on the upper portion of this blog for more information and changes or updates.  Thanks and see you at the Welch Pool.  Go Sharks!

**2014** Welch Swim Team **2014**

Welcome to the Welch Swim Team's new blog!  We will use this blog as one of several methods to communicate Welch Swim Team information to parents and swimmers.

2014 Summer Swim Season... "OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" 

A new summer swim season with the Welch Sharks Swim Team is upon us with the first pre-season practice scheduled for early morning Saturday, May 31 (Wow, that's only a few hours from now!) and the second pre-season practice will be on Saturday, June 7.

2014 Preseason Practices: Saturdays, May 31 & June 7

• Ages 11+ from 8-9 AM
• Ages 10 & Under from 9-10 AM

Practices are a great opportunity for the coaches to get to know the kids and review some fundamentals!  Swimmers MUST be registered before they may participate in practices or meets.  You can register your Welch Sharks Swim Team swimmer either at the Welch Pool Front Desk, The Centre Region Parks & Recreation (CRPR) Office (in person or by phone) located in the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) Building or online through the following link to CRPR website:

There will be a general information presentation for all new swim parents at each of these pre-season practices.  We will provide a summary of information related to the Welch Team and the summer swim league (CPSL) competitive meets as well as attempt to answer all questions.
